Catherine Cazalet Designs
I'm a born and bred London based artist. My interest in art appeared at a very young age, encouraged by my artist Mother.
After an Art Foundation course in North London i spent a year studying at the Studio School in New York, working exclusively with the figure but with not technical constraints. I then completed my Art degree at Newcastle University. I subsequently embarked upon an apprenticeship at the Stirling Studio in London, a specialist decorators workshop where i worked with everything from metal and mirror to glitter and gold leaf.
My work has been very informed by these experiences but mainly by my interest in colour, composition and the history and origins of design. My classical training has always been a big part of my work although there has always been a longing for the abstract which can often be seen in my vibrant and simple work.
My favourite artists are David Hockney, Picasso, Peter Doig, Henri Rousseau, Jean-Michael Basquat and Matisse.
